Product Photography Tips - How to photograph products?

More and more people start their own online store or want any other reason (insurance?) Products that they've got pictures. Especially for those who want to offer their goods for sale, it is important that the product is so beautiful and clear as possible on the photo. But how do you achieve this? Of course it is dependent on the properties of the product, such as the shape, if any gloss color, how the camera and the lighting needs to be set precisely. But in general we try to say something about photographing products. For specific tips, you can always comment form at the bottom of the page below.

- The background
regarding the background you can see several ways to proceed. The easiest is to use a white background, or at least a solid color. A large sheet of thick paper can already do wonders. Drape the sheet so that the product on the sheet on it and without folds or bends backward passes. Stick the top of the sheet as on a wall and leave it on the ground through. It is important that you do not fold is at the point where the wall flows into the floor. That gives an ugly shadow. A white background has the advantage that the product that really stands out.

You can also choose the background to give a specific atmosphere. However, not all products lend themselves to this. For example if you sell an exotic smelling perfume, you can place it against a background with tropical fruits and exotic flowers. Also for certain delicacies are an atmospheric background suitable. For example, create a rustic Italian-looking background by the product on a wooden table top with a glass of wine, bread basket, some dry pasta, vegetables, and maybe some parmesan. Take it all off by a little flour or flour on the table to sprinkle, so it looks like just fresh pizza is baked.

- The camera and equipment
it is best to use an SLR and shoot in RAW format. So you can still post without quality settings. Use a zoom lens that at least the middle range, between about 40mm and 100 mm cover. It's nice to at least stabilization in the camera and / or the lens to have. A tripod will also be a godsend.

Usually you will have the background in focus not want. There are two ways to try to blur the background.
- Do not go too far away and zoom in on the product
- Use a large aperture

Experiment a bit with the zoom and aperture settings if it does not succeed the first time. Zoom prefer not complete unless you are sure you can handle this lens. Many lenses give more distortion at the extreme zoom range than with a middle setting.

- Exposure
For product photography it is usually important to shadows as much as possible, especially shadows that fall on the product itself. Depending on the shape of the product, it is therefore important to light sources is on different sides to be used. This may be a window, but for example also an additional lamp. Move the light to no disturbing shadows more visible. The (fill) flash can help some more light from the front to create, but sometimes the flash due to the reflection that this causes more harm than good. If possible, turn the flash on a lower intensity if you're at close range.

- Position
For product photography is the best position to shoot mostly from the front. If you shoot from an angle, the proportions of the product otherwise seem.

- Finishing
when photographing products, finishing with the computer just as important as portrait photography. Always check the exposure, color saturation and white balance (very important!). The background must be really white and not a little yellowish or gray. Also remove any stains and fabrics. The contrast can also be adjusted a bit. Cut out the image so that only the part left over that is suitable for publication.
